Most related works focus on straight roads to basically validate the spacing errors, and many previous related works do not take into account the environment impact and the vehicle's kinematics. The square shape simulation's track is wisely chosen since it proves both lateral and longitudinal control performance. Similar to the above-mentioned works, we propose a simulation model using the Webots robot simulator with the purpose of proving the efficiency of the designed control. Despite all these projects, there is still an outstanding need to further analyse the performance of platooning systems in terms of their stability, reliability and, most importantly, safety. To further guarantee ultimate road safety, novel initiatives have emerged such as the Active Test European project which aims at embedding highly efficient safety function in the next generation of smart vehicles. Earlier, the SARTRE FP7 project presented in (‘Safe Road Trains for the Environment’) released the first road train comprising three Volvo cars and one truck following a leading vehicle and operating in public highways with other road users deployed in Spain and Sweden. In KARYON, a new architecture for cooperative automated vehicles has been proposed with a special emphasis on achieving full command of cooperative systems. Recently, the KARYON FP7 European project provided solutions for a predictable and safe coordination of smart vehicles that autonomously interact in an open and inherently uncertain environment. Owing to the complexity of the platoon system and the interest to further improve its safety, several projects have tried to bring different usage of this technology on urban area and highways which one can cite SafePlatoon project and European FP7 CATS project. Industry and academia are working hand-in-hand to push the market of vehicular platoons through various research projects. IET Generation, Transmission & DistributionĪ platoon system is defined as a set of autonomous vehicles that navigate according to a trajectory defined by a leading vehicle which is typically controlled manually by a professional driver.IET Electrical Systems in Transportation.IET Cyber-Physical Systems: Theory & Applications.
